Isaiah 47:15

Thus shall they be unto thee with whom thou hast laboured, even thy merchants, from thy youth: they shall wander every one to his quarter; none shall save thee.

Isaiah 47:15 · King James Version

Meaning

This verse from the book of Isaiah is a warning to the nation of Israel regarding the consequences of their actions. In this verse, God is foretelling that the merchants and various allies that Israel had relied on for support and trade would eventually abandon them. The phrase "from thy youth" emphasizes the long-standing relationships that Israel had built with these nations, only to be left to fend for themselves in times of need. The mention of "they shall wander every one to his quarter" suggests that each ally will look out for their own interests, ultimately leaving Israel unprotected and unsupported. The final phrase "none shall save thee" serves as a stark reminder that without God's protection, Israel will face the consequences of their disobedience and will not find help or deliverance from anyone else. This verse serves as a cautionary tale about the dangers of relying on worldly alliances and the importance of staying faithful to God.

Theological Overview

One theological interpretation of this verse from Jeremiah 15:7 focuses on the consequences of relying on material possessions and relationships for security instead of turning to God. The mention of merchants and laborers highlights the idea that these earthly pursuits and connections will ultimately fail to provide lasting protection and deliverance. The wandering of each individual to his own quarter symbolizes isolation and abandonment, emphasizing the futility of seeking help from others instead of seeking refuge in God. The phrase "None shall save thee" serves as a stark reminder that true deliverance can only come from God, not from human efforts or earthly resources.
