Questions & answers
Things worth knowing before you begin Devout — and a few worth knowing after.
What is Devout?
Devout is a daily devotional for people who want their faith to have depth. Each morning it offers a passage of Scripture, a reflection, a question to sit with, and a private place to write — the same unhurried shape every day. Alongside it is a wider library: the whole Bible, reading plans, the Church Fathers, and more.
Is there a free trial?
Yes. Devout begins with a 7-day full preview — every feature, nothing held back — and it does not ask for a credit card. When the preview ends, you decide whether to continue.
What does Devout cost?
One plan, $14 a month or $140 a year — the annual plan works out to two months free. There are no tiers and no add-ons. See the pricing page for what is included.
What devices does Devout work on?
Devout runs in the web browser, so it works on a phone, tablet, or computer with nothing to install. You can add it to your home screen for a more app-like feel, and your reading and journal stay in sync across every device you use.
Which traditions does Devout support?
Devout is shaped to Catholic, Orthodox, Anglican, Lutheran, Reformed, Methodist, Baptist, Pentecostal / Charismatic, and Evangelical readers — with a gentler track for those still exploring the Christian faith. The Scripture it draws on, the reflections it offers, and the calendar it keeps all shift to fit your tradition.
What if I'm not sure of my tradition?
That is welcome here. Choose the exploring track, and Devout will offer a broadly Christian devotional without assuming a particular tradition. You can settle into one later, whenever it feels right.
Can I change my tradition later?
Yes — your tradition is a setting you can change at any time, and Devout adjusts from the next day's reading onward.
Are the reflections written by AI?
In part, yes — and we think it is only right to be plain about that. Each morning's reflection is composed with the help of AI, guided closely by your tradition's reading of Scripture and written in a calm, considered register.
Scripture itself, and the quotations from the Church Fathers and the great Christian writers, are never AI-generated. Those are drawn from established translations and sources.
Can I read the whole Bible on Devout?
Yes. The complete Bible is available in several translations, which you can set side by side when you want to read closely — with the daily reading layered on top.
What is the church directory?
It is a browsable directory of Christian churches across American cities — names, traditions, and addresses. You can save a home church to your profile, and it appears in your weekend note.
Is my journal private?
Yes. Your journal entries are encrypted in our database. There is no advertising, there are no third-party trackers, and your writing is never sold or shared. A devotional life asks for honesty, and honesty asks for privacy.
Can I take my writing with me?
Always. You can export everything you have written as a PDF or JSON file at any time. If you ever leave Devout, you take your years with you.
Will I be charged when the preview ends?
No — there are no surprise charges. Because the preview does not take a credit card, it simply ends, and you choose whether to subscribe. Nothing happens to your account unless you decide it should.
How do I cancel?
You can cancel anytime from your settings, in a couple of clicks. Your access continues to the end of the period you have already paid for, and your journal remains exportable.
