Zechariah 11:6

For I will no more pity the inhabitants of the land, saith the LORD: but, lo, I will deliver the men every one into his neighbour's hand, and into the hand of his king: and they shall smite the land, and out of their hand I will not deliver them.

Zechariah 11:6 · King James Version

Meaning

The verse conveys a message of impending judgment and punishment from the LORD upon the inhabitants of the land. The lack of pity from the LORD signifies a severe consequence for the actions of the people. This judgement will result in the people being delivered into the hands of their neighbors and kings, indicating a loss of power and control. The phrase "they shall smite the land" suggests destruction and devastation, as the people will be unable to protect themselves. The refusal of the LORD to deliver them out of their hand emphasizes the magnitude of the punishment and the inevitability of their fate. Overall, this verse serves as a warning of the consequences of disobedience and a reminder of the power and righteousness of the LORD.

Theological Overview

In this verse, God declares His judgment upon the inhabitants of the land who have disobeyed Him. The phrase "I will no more pity the inhabitants of the land" shows the severity of God's response to their actions. He is no longer willing to show them mercy due to their continuous defiance. God then states that He will deliver the people into the hands of their neighbors and kings, allowing them to be defeated and overrun. This is a strong indication of God's justice and the consequences of rebellion against Him. The phrase "they shall smite the land" illustrates the impending destruction and suffering that will come upon the land as a result of their actions. Despite their cries for deliverance, God declares that He will not rescue them from the hands of their enemies, emphasizing the seriousness of their disobedience and the consequences that come with it.
