Reformed readers tend to be hard on devotional writing, and with reason. A great deal of it is thin — a verse lifted out of its argument, a warm feeling, an application that would work equally well attached to any other verse. If that is your suspicion, it is a well-earned one.
The text, not a text-shaped feeling
Devout asks which tradition you stand in, and answering Reformed changes what you are given. The reflection reads the passage in its covenantal setting rather than as a standalone motto, and it does not soften what the text says about God's sovereignty, sin or judgement in order to leave you comfortable.
On genuinely contested passages it gives the Reformed reading and names it as such, rather than finding a formula everyone could sign.
The catechisms, whole
The Heidelberg Catechism is in the Library, arranged by Lord's Day as it is meant to be used, and the Westminster Shorter Catechism question by question — both free to read, with or without an account. Calvin, Edwards, Spurgeon, Warfield and Bunyan are held there too, with their lives and their words.
What the morning looks like
One page: a passage of Scripture, a reflection, a voice from the Christian past, and a question waiting in a private journal. Reading plans if you would rather work through a book or the whole Bible in order, laid out in full before you sign up for anything.
What it does not do
It is not preaching and it is not the means of grace. It does not gather you, it cannot administer anything, and it is emphatically not a substitute for the Lord's Day. It is the private reading — the part that has always been the individual Christian's own responsibility, and the part that quietly lapses first.
