Spurgeon's Daily Meditations
Continue in prayer
“Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving.”
It is well to pray; it is better to continue praying. The Christian who prays only in seasons of distress is like a soldier who polishes his sword only when the enemy is at the gate. Pray in all weathers — when the sun shines and when the sky is dark. Pray when thou hast no need to pray, and thou shalt not want for help when need comes.
'Continue' — that is, go on. Do not despair if the answer tarries. The mercy delayed is not the mercy denied. Some prayers are like seeds; they must lie in the ground awhile before they spring up. Continue.
And watch with thanksgiving. The thankful heart sees God's hand in every gift — even in the gift unasked, even in the gift that came in disguise. He who prays much will have much to be thankful for; and he who is much thankful will have much to pray for, with confidence.
