Spurgeon's Daily Meditations
He is faithful that promised
“Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;).”
Stagger not at a promise of God through unbelief. Whatever he has said, he will perform. His word is his bond, and his bond is unbreakable.
Men are unfaithful — even good men. They mean their promises when they make them; they forget them, or are unable to keep them, or are taken from us before the time of keeping them comes. But the Lord! He neither forgets, nor fails, nor dies. What he says, he means; what he means, he does.
Then let us hold fast — and without wavering. To waver is to dishonour him. The trembling reed in the wind is not faith; faith is the oak that stands rooted in the soil of God's promise. Let the storms come; the oak is not moved.
'He is faithful that promised.' Repeat it to thy heart in the hour of doubt; it will steady thee.
