Spurgeon's Daily Meditations
Looking unto Jesus
“Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith.”
There is life in a look at the crucified One — there is life at this moment for thee. Then look, sinner — look unto him and be saved. Thou painful one — look. Thou unworthy one — look. Thou feeble one — look. Only look. Thou hast nothing else to do.
The look saves because of what it looks upon. It is not the strength of the look — many a faltering eye has seen the brazen serpent and lived — but the strength of the object looked upon. Jesus is the author of thy faith — he begins it. He is the finisher of thy faith — he ends it. From the first weak glance to the last triumphant gaze, the work is his.
Keep looking. Look not at thy feelings, look not at thy graces, look not at thy faith itself — look at Jesus only.
