Spurgeon's Daily Meditations

My grace is sufficient for thee

“And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.”

— 2 Corinthians 12:9

Paul prayed thrice that the thorn might depart, and the answer was not deliverance but sufficiency. 'My grace is sufficient for thee.' Sufficient — that is, enough; not promised more, but assured of enough.

Is the trial heavy? The grace is sufficient. Is the weakness great? His strength is made perfect in it. Is the sorrow long? His mercies are new every morning. There is no extremity to which the grace of Christ does not extend; no need so peculiar that the supply is wanting.

Do not say, 'I cannot bear this.' You can — in him. The Lord does not promise to take the burden away; he promises sufficient grace to carry it. Lean harder. The arm that holds you up has not begun to weary.
