Spurgeon's Daily Meditations
The bread of life
“And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.”
Bread is for daily eating. The believer does not feed on Christ once and then live on the memory of that meal. He feeds today, and tomorrow, and every day — and finds the bread always fresh, never stale, never wanting.
Observe: he that COMETH shall never hunger. The coming is not a single act long ago; it is the constant motion of the soul toward Christ. Come this morning. Come this noon. Come in the dark hour of temptation. Come at the close of the day. Each coming is met with bread; each return is met with welcome.
The world's bread fills for a moment and the hunger returns. Christ's bread satisfies forever. Hast thou eaten? Eat again. The supply is endless; the table is always set; the Master himself is the bread broken for thee.
