Spurgeon's Daily Meditations
The Comforter
“And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever.”
Another Comforter — another like Christ. Such was Christ to his disciples while he tarried with them; such is the Spirit to the Church now that the Lord is glorified. The same tenderness, the same wisdom, the same patience, the same readiness to bear with us.
And he shall abide with you for ever. Christ tarried but a little while in the flesh; the Spirit tarries in the saint until the heavenly home. Forsake not the Comforter by quenching him, by grieving him, by hardening thyself against his soft voice. He is the best friend thou hast — better than father, mother, husband, wife; better than thine own heart. Walk in the Spirit, and the Spirit will walk in thee, and the Father and the Son will make their abode in thee. Such is the Christian's blessedness: God within him.
