Spurgeon's Daily Meditations
A fountain opened
“In that day there shall be a fountain opened to the house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem for sin and for uncleanness.”
The fountain is opened. Not a cup of water for a few drops of sin, but a fountain — abundant, overflowing, more than enough for all that come. And it is opened — not closed, not locked, not hidden. The grace of God in Christ has been unsealed; whosoever will may come and wash and be clean.
For sin AND for uncleanness — distinct words. Sin is the guilt; uncleanness is the pollution. The fountain answers both: it pardons and it purifies. The believer is justified by the blood and sanctified by the Spirit, and both streams flow from the one open fountain.
Dost thou feel thyself stained today? Come to the fountain. Hast thou some old, old sin that returns to torment thee? Come to the fountain. There is no need to wait until thou art clean; the fountain is for the unclean. Wash, and be clean.
