The everlasting arms

“The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.”

— Deuteronomy 33:27

Beneath thee, beloved, are the everlasting arms. Sink as far as you will, you cannot sink lower than they are; they are everlasting, that is, eternal, that is, deeper than your deepest need.

When one trial passes, another comes; but the arms remain. When one comfort fails, another may not be ready; but the arms are there. When death approaches, the arms are there still — beneath us, holding us up, ready to carry us across the dark river to the further shore.

This is more than a promise; it is a fact. The arms are there now, beneath thee at this moment. Thou hast not seen them, but they are there. Lean thy whole weight upon them. The Lord has never let one of his children fall. He never will.
