Wesley exposes the chief stratagems of the enemy of souls — how Satan tempts those who are seeking salvation, those who have found it, and those who are growing in grace.
Sermon 42 of 44 · 1750 · 2 Corinthians 2:11
Satan's Devices
A passage from the sermon
Of his devices we are not ignorant. One of his chief devices is this: when a soul is in the deepest darkness, when overwhelmed with the sense of sin, Satan whispers, 'It is too late: God will not receive you now.' Another: when a soul has found peace, he whispers, 'You are deceived; it is all imagination.'
Resist him, steadfast in the faith. The same Christ who delivered thee yesterday will deliver thee to-day. The blood that washed thee at the first will wash thee again. The Spirit that gave thee peace will give it again. Continue: only continue: and you shall see the salvation of God.
