On the final judgment — when every secret will be brought to light and every soul will stand before the throne. Preached at the assizes (the English circuit courts), drawing the parallel between earthly justice and the last.

The Great Assize
A passage from the sermon
We shall all stand before the judgment-seat of Christ. But who is able to abide it? Who shall stand when he appeareth? Whose conscience is so clear that he can without fear behold him whose eyes are as a flame of fire?
Let us therefore so judge ourselves, that we be not judged of the Lord. Let us examine ourselves, every one, that we may know whereunto we have attained: whether we are still in the broad way, or in that narrow way that leadeth unto life. And let us walk before God in lowliness of heart, and in humble dependence upon his mercy, knowing that we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the Righteous.
