A Living Sacrifice

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.”

— Romans 12:1

There is a kind of Christian life that gives much but never gives all. The body is kept back. The will is kept back. Some hidden room of the heart is kept locked even from the Master who walks freely through the rest of the house.

God calls for absolute surrender. Not because he is hard; because he is faithful. Half-given Christians are unhappy Christians. They have given Christ too much to be at ease with the world, and they have given him too little to be at peace with him. They are torn between two kingdoms.

End the division today. Present your body. Hand over the will. Open the last locked room and bring him the key. The mercies of God are your reason; the joy of his service is your reward. Say it, and mean it: Lord, here I am. All of me. For ever.
