The Blood Cleanseth Us
“And the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.”
Cleanseth — note the tense. Not cleansed, once, long ago. Cleanseth, now, this moment, as you read. The blood that was shed at Calvary nineteen centuries past is still flowing for the saint who walks with God today.
We need this. We sin. Not always grossly, but in countless small ways. A sharp word. A wandering eye. A proud thought. An hour wasted. A neighbour neglected. If we said we had no sin we would deceive ourselves. But the blood cleanseth — and what we bring to it, it carries away.
Do not let yesterday's sin lie upon you. Do not carry today's failure into tomorrow. Bring it now, this minute, to the open fountain. He never refuses the work of cleansing. He has paid for it; he loves to do it; he is doing it as you ask.
