Andrew Murray's Daily Meditations
Be Filled with the Spirit
“Be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit.”
It is a command, not an option. Be filled. The same authority that says "thou shalt not steal" says "be filled with the Spirit." Not to seek this filling is not modesty; it is disobedience.
And it is a present-tense command — "be being filled." The filling is not a single event from which we live the rest of our days. It is a continual yielding to his continual coming. As often as we empty ourselves, he fills us again.
What is it to be filled? It is to give him every part — to leave no room for self, for fear, for ambition that is not his. It is to take him as Master in detail. He responds to such a soul as a river responds to a low place: he fills it without measure. Pray today: Holy Spirit, fill me again.
