Andrew Murray's Daily Meditations
In Spirit and in Truth
“God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”
God is Spirit; his deepest fellowship is not with the lips, nor with the mind, but with the spirit of man. Outward worship — words, postures, places — has its place, but it is the spirit within that must meet with him.
There is a way of attending church and reading Scripture and saying prayers without ever drawing near to God. There is also a way — small, quiet, unobserved — of meeting him truly in the spirit, with only a whisper between your soul and his throne.
Seek him in spirit. Quiet the outer noise, and quiet also the inner noise — the running list of duties, the rehearsal of yesterday's words. Stand before him, simply and humbly, and let him be God. He will meet you. He has promised it.
