Andrew Murray's Daily Meditations
On Thee Do I Wait All the Day
“Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.”
All the day. Notice this. The Psalmist does not say "in the morning," nor "at the evening sacrifice," nor "in the temple." All the day. From the first opening of his eyes to the last sigh before sleep.
The waiting heart turns to God in scraps as well as in stretches. A word arises before a difficult conversation. A glance is lifted up between two tasks. A petition is whispered while the kettle boils. None of it is loud; none of it is long; but it is steady, and it is honest, and it knits the soul to him.
Can you wait on him all the day? Begin with one day. Mark the moments when you remembered; mark the moments when you forgot. Do not be discouraged by the forgettings. Each remembering is a small return, a small fastening of your soul to the God of your salvation. He who has begun this work in you will perfect it.
