Wesley addresses the persistent objection: 'But I still feel sin in me — am I therefore not saved?' He answers that 'no condemnation' belongs to those who are in Christ even while indwelling sin remains.
Sermon 8 of 44 · 1746 · Romans 8:1
The First-fruits of the Spirit
A passage from the sermon
There is no condemnation, by reason of any past sin, to them who now believe in Christ Jesus. For God hath set forth, or given, him to be 'a propitiation, through faith in his blood; to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God.'
Nor again is there any condemnation upon them, by reason of any present sin, of whatever kind, which now remains in their hearts — provided they do not yield thereto, but resist it by the Spirit. Inward sin may possibly remain; but the sin does not now reign. The body of sin and death is still in them; but the dominion of it is taken away.
