On the two great pillars of the gospel: repent, and believe. Wesley unfolds what the kingdom of God is and how a sinner enters it.
Sermon 7 of 44 · 1746 · Mark 1:15
The Way to the Kingdom
A passage from the sermon
The Kingdom of God, or true religion, is not 'meat and drink, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Ghost.' Righteousness, first — the love of God shed abroad in the heart. Peace, next — the fruit and effect of that love, even peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. And joy — even joy in the Holy Ghost, a sweet and tranquil delight in him through whom we have now received the atonement.
This is the way: walk thou in it. And whosoever thou art that hast ears to hear, repent, and believe the gospel. Be not over careful as to the manner: leave thou that to God, who knoweth all that is in thy heart. Only see thou do not stop short of the great salvation.
