Continuing the argument from Sermon 35, Wesley shows how the believer, justified by faith, fulfils the law more truly than the legalist ever could.
Sermon 36 of 44 · 1750 · Romans 3:31
The Law Established Through Faith, II
A passage from the sermon
The faith of a true Christian, however different from that of the legalist, is far from setting him at variance with the law. So far from the contrary, that the very end of his faith is, that he may be enabled, through love, to fulfil the law. Faith is the appointed means of receiving that love, which alone is the fulfilling of the law.
Get thou this faith, and thou establishest the law: thou dost magnify it, and make it honourable. Thou showest forth its full extent, its purity and spirituality, in all thy words and actions. Yea, thy whole life is a sermon upon the law of God, more affecting than any words can be.
