Wesley unfolds Christ's command not to be anxious about food, drink, clothing — and the deeper principle of trust in the Father who cares for the lilies and the birds.

Upon Our Lord's Sermon on the Mount, IX
A passage from the sermon
Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink. Anxious, perplexing, restless thought — this is what Christ forbids, not foresight or honest care.
Behold the fowls of the air; consider the lilies of the field. Trust thy Father. He who has given thee life and breath and a soul to be saved will not leave thee in want of any good thing. Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
